Labyrinth stepped around the corner and found herself face to face with one of the castle’s many guards. Before he could react she slit his throat and grabbed him before he fell to the floor with a loud noise. She cursed quietly at the lack of sense she used, stabbing would have been less messy and she would have been able to use his uniform. However now she would have to find another soldier to kill and steal his outfit.
Walking silently she dipped into corners as a unit walked by. Stepping into its formations she grabbed a man from behind and dragged him back into the shadows. Before she could finish him off he spoke, “Don’t kill me, please!”
His voice made her stop before she acted, “Why shouldn’t I?” Her blade was pressed tightly to his throat and she pressed down with her question.
“My name is Rosso Talick and I can help you.” He touched her hand as he spoke, “Please.”
“I have no need of your help, Rosso.” Something about her made her hand holding the dagger to his throat relax, “On the other hand, you do have access to the armory and clothes. Don’t you?”
“Yes, yes, I do. Let me help, please.” He pleaded, “But after I help you…you will have to take me with you. They’ll kill me if they find out I’ve helped you, so you must promise to take me.”
“We’ll see about that. Or I can make you stay and you’ll be my informant.” She pushed the man away from her, “Betray me in any way and I will kill you. I do not make idle threats, Rosso Talick. Now take me to the armory.” Checking the corridor for anyone she signaled him to go ahead of her and lead the way.
After going down different corridors Talick opened a room, “This is the armory.” Pushing him into the room before her she waved her hand and instructed him to list the number of weapons stored. As they did this he told her of the armies being formed and the number of allies the Dark Kingdom was attempting to unite with. In turn Rin told him who she was and what she needed him to do as her informant. Told him that she was the only one to whom he answered to.
Once they finished Labyrinth unsheathed her dagger and walked toward him, grabbing his arm she made a quick mark on skin. “Betray me and once they see this mark they will kill you no matter what you have told them. I assure you of that. Understand?”
“Yes, commander.” Roose bent and formed the oath between a soldier and commanding officer. “I will not betray you, this I promise. I will be yours to command until I have no life nor breath.”
Labyrinth accepted and returned the oath before dismissing him. She left the same way she had come. They had agreed to meet near the borderlands once every month and with that she was satisfied. Although she hadn’t told him that the blade she had cut him with held her mark and poison made by the sorcerers back in the Light Kingdom. Only a sorcerer could reverse the mark and a Dark Kingdom leader could not have a soldier with that in his skin. If he betrayed her he would die by her mark or the weapon of a fellow soldier.
