Name: Jack
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Species: Elf
History: Jack was abandoned as a baby. Because of this, he never knew who his parents were, or if he had any other family. They left him there on the forest floor that night. His first night on the earth, was left to die. Cold and hungry, Jack was rescued by a stray traveler. The traveler's name was Sumner, and he taught Jack everything he knew. Sumner was like a father to Jack, encouraging him to do his best in everything. From Sumner, Jack learned how to read and write. He learned how to wield different kinds of weapons, including magic. Jack learned the ways of the forest and how to read the signs of whether, and how to write in poetic forms. But the thing that Jack was taught most was how to dig. Sumner taught him this because there cottage was more like a burrow, built into the ground. This was for camouflage, and if you looked at it, it seemed nothing more as a soft mound of dirt and moss. One day Jack found something in the dirt. It was an old hornpipe some poor soul must have lost while traveling. Jack brought it to Sumner, who then played tunes around the campfire each night. When Sumner found out that Jack was interested in music, he taught him to play the instrument. That was how Jack's life went up until recently, when bandits attacked them in an attempt to steel what little food they had stored for the winter. Jack and Sumner fought without fear, and it was this lack that lead to Sumner's death. He died that night, his last words were, "Be strong, don't give in, and keep hope as your strongest ally." then Sumner's spirit left him. In rage, Jack slew the bandits, but was unable to stop the last, who escaped with their food. Alone again, heartbroken and bloody, Jack brought Sumner's body to a church, where he could have a proper ceremony. But Jack was turned away when he couldn't pay for the funeral. Angry, the elf brought his friends body to the graveyard, thrust some coins into the guard's hand, then proceeded to look around the cemetery. Sumner wouldn't want to be crowded by strangers, so Jack brought him over to a tree where no other graves existed. Then poor Jack buried his friend under the apple tree, said a prayer, and was forced to leave. Jack returned to his home in the forest to find it in flames... the symbol of the bandits. Jack saved all that he could, including the weapons and a cloak, before he was forced to leave. Jack was homeless for a few days, but did finally manage to create a burrow, just as Sumner had. But then food was a problem. The game animals were beginning to sleep for the winter, and the only choices Jack had was to either pick off the rabbits or get a job. The second one was far more helpful. He got a job at the graveyard, where he could visit Sumner anytime he pleased. Not to mention, the job payed rather well.
